Terms of Service for qsy

Last updated: 27 October 2026 · Version 1.1

These terms apply when you use qsy, the service at qsy.no and app.qsy.no. Please read them in full. We have written them as clearly as we can.

This is an English translation of the Norwegian terms. In the event of any conflict between the language versions, the Norwegian version prevails (see section 22).

1. Who the agreement is between

The service is provided by:

Jon Marius Nilsson (sole proprietorship / enkeltpersonforetak) Org. no. 991 578 307, registered in the Norwegian Register of Legal Entities (Enhetsregisteret) Schweigaards gate 34, 0191 Oslo, Norway Contact: the form at /hjelp or support@qsy.no

The business is registered in the Norwegian VAT Register (Merverdiavgiftsregisteret). VAT on your purchase is calculated and collected by Paddle as the seller (see below), and is stated in the checkout window and on your receipt.

In these terms, we refer to the service and the provider as "qsy", "we" and "us". "You" means the person using the service, whether as a consumer or on behalf of a business.

Your subscription purchase is completed by Paddle. Our order process is conducted by our authorized reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: Paddle is the seller and invoice issuer towards you, and handles payment, VAT, receipts, refunds and payment-related inquiries. The purchase itself is governed by Paddle's terms of purchase (the Paddle Checkout Buyer Terms), which are presented to you in the checkout window. These terms (qsy's terms) govern your use of the service. Nothing in qsy's terms limits any rights you have against Paddle as the seller.

We remain responsible for your rights under these terms. If a right you have under these terms is not honored through Paddle (for example notice of a price change, or settlement when you exercise your right of withdrawal), you can always turn to us via /hjelp, and we will make sure it is resolved.

Questions about payment, invoices, VAT or refunds should be directed to Paddle (paddle.net). Questions about the service and your account should be directed to us via /hjelp.

2. What the service is

qsy lets you:

  • design QR codes in a dedicated studio
  • create short links (qsy.no/yourlink) that your QR codes point to, and change the destination without reprinting the code
  • view scan statistics for your links (number of scans, country, city, device type, source). We do not store information that could identify the people who scan: technical data, such as IP addresses, is processed briefly during the redirect itself and discarded before statistics are stored, and the statistics are based on anonymous data. See the privacy policy.
  • organize links in folders, upload a logo and export QR codes

Anonymous trial. You can try the service without an account: design a QR code and get a temporary link that works for at least 20 minutes, or continue working in the studio as an anonymous guest for up to 24 hours with one link and one folder. Everything you create as an anonymous guest is temporary and is deleted automatically when the period expires. If you want to keep your work, you take out a subscription. We never convert you into a paying customer automatically: that requires an active order from you.

Subscription. The service is sold as an ongoing subscription in two tiers, Pro and Business (called «Bedrift» in the Norwegian version), with an included number of links and scans per calendar month as set out in section 6. Your codes are never stopped because of the number of scans, and you are never charged automatically for scans beyond the included amount. There is no free version beyond the anonymous trial, with one exception: customers whose website is made in Mekanismer (mekanismer.no) get the Partner tier free of charge for as long as their customer relationship with Mekanismer continues (see sections 6 and 12). Partner is not purchased and does not go through Paddle. If you already have a qsy account, it is only connected to Mekanismer once you accept this yourself on the account page.

Codes without a short link. On Pro and Business you can turn off the short link for a code (not on Partner). The address is then encoded straight into the QR code: the code does not go via us, the destination cannot be changed once the code is printed, and we cannot show statistics for it. WiFi codes and contact cards are always encoded this way and are part of the Business tier.

Technical requirements. To use the service you need a modern web browser and a valid email address for signing in. The QR codes can be scanned with an ordinary phone camera or a QR reader app. Designs can be exported in standard formats (SVG and PNG), which can be used in common graphics and print workflows.

3. Account and acceptance of the terms

You accept these terms when you:

  • create an account: the terms are linked in the registration flow, and you confirm them expressly,
  • complete a purchase: the terms are linked in the checkout window, and you accept them before paying, or
  • continue using the service after being notified of updated terms (see section 17).

We store the time of your acceptance and which version of the terms you accepted.

If you purchase a subscription before creating an account, you accept the terms in the checkout window before paying. The account is created automatically with the email address from the purchase, and you are taken to a welcome page where you complete the account setup. There you confirm the terms again.

You are responsible for keeping the information on your account accurate, and for activity carried out using your sign-in methods (passkey, email link, Google, Apple or password), unless the activity is caused by circumstances on our side, including a failure in the security of the service or of our subcontractors. If you suspect that someone else has gained access to your account, let us know via /hjelp as soon as you can.

You must be at least 18 years old to take out a subscription.

Each version of the terms is marked with a version number and date at the top. When changes are made, the notice rules in section 17 apply.

4. Consumer or business customer

These terms have two tracks:

  • Consumer: you are acting mainly outside the course of business. In that case, mandatory Norwegian consumer legislation, including digitalytelsesloven (the Norwegian Act on Supply of Digital Services to Consumers) and angrerettloven (the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act), applies in full. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under law that cannot be waived by agreement. Where a provision applies only to business customers, this is stated expressly.
  • Business customer: you are acting in the course of business. In that case, the terms apply as written, including the limitations of liability in section 14 and the notice-of-claim deadlines in section 14.5.

What matters is the actual main purpose of the purchase, as defined by law. Purchases of the Business tier and purchases registered to a business entity are presumed to be made in the course of business, but if you nevertheless qualify as a consumer under the law, the consumer track applies to you. The Pro subscription can be taken out by either.

5. Price, payment and renewal

  • Prices are shown on the pricing page and in the checkout window before you confirm your purchase, with VAT stated. Payment is made in advance, monthly or yearly, as you choose.
  • The subscription renews automatically for a new period of the same length until it is cancelled. This is disclosed before you buy.
  • You cancel yourself under "Abonnement" (Subscription) on the account page (/konto), or by letting us know via /hjelp, in which case we effect the cancellation without undue delay and confirm it by email. Cancelling is at least as easy as signing up. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep access for the remainder of the period.
  • If we change the price of an ongoing subscription, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the new price takes effect. You may then cancel with effect no later than the date the change takes effect.
  • Refunds and payment disputes are handled by Paddle under Paddle's terms of purchase. Nothing in these terms deprives you of any refund rights you have under law or under Paddle's terms, and you can always turn to us under section 1 if something is not resolved with Paddle.

6. Included usage

Each tier includes a number of links and a number of scans per calendar month:

TierLinks (active at any one time)Included scans per calendar month
Partner (free via Mekanismer)2550,000
Pro100350,000
Business5003,500,000
  • Links: once you have reached the number of active links for your tier, you cannot create more until you delete or deactivate some, or switch to a larger tier. Existing links are not affected.
  • Scans are an included amount, not a cap: scans are counted together for the whole account, across all links and QR codes, per calendar month (Norwegian time). The count starts from zero at the beginning of each calendar month; unused scans are not carried over.
  • Your codes are never stopped because of usage: links and QR codes are never throttled, limited or stopped because of the number of scans, including when the account is above the included amount. Section 8.2 on misuse applies independently of this.
  • No automatic charges: you are never charged for scans beyond the included amount, neither automatically nor in arrears. You only pay the price of the subscription you have chosen.
  • Email notices: we notify you by email when the account has used 80% and 100% of the included scans in a calendar month. If the account is above the included amount, you then receive a weekly summary for the rest of the month. You can also follow your usage on the account page (/konto).
  • Persistently high usage: if usage stays well above the included amount over time, we may contact you to agree on a tier or plan that suits your usage. Any change of tier or price only takes effect if you expressly accept it.

7. Right of withdrawal (consumers)

As a consumer, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal under angrerettloven (the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act), counted from when the agreement was entered into. To exercise the right of withdrawal, notify us within the deadline: most easily to Paddle as the seller (paddle.net), or to us via /hjelp, in which case we will pass it on and follow up to make sure you receive your settlement. You may use the standard withdrawal form, available at /angreskjema.

Delivery starts immediately. The right of withdrawal remains. The service is digital and is delivered continuously from the moment the purchase is completed. In the checkout window you are therefore asked to expressly request that delivery start immediately, and to confirm that you understand the consequence: if you withdraw after delivery has started, you pay a proportionate share of the price for the period from the start of delivery until you gave notice of withdrawal (angrerettloven § 26, section 26 of the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act). The remainder of what you have paid is refunded. Your right of withdrawal expires 14 days after the agreement was entered into and does not lapse before then, even though delivery has started. Your confirmation is timestamped, stored and reproduced in the confirmation email you receive after the purchase.

The same applies to each subsequent agreement that triggers a new right of withdrawal (for example an upgrade to a different tier). Automatic renewal of an ongoing subscription does not trigger a new right of withdrawal.

The right of withdrawal does not apply to the anonymous trial: it is free and without obligation.

8. Acceptable use

qsy redirects people to destinations you choose. That trust is the entire service. These rules therefore apply absolutely.

8.1 The following is prohibited

You may not use links, QR codes or any other part of the service to:

  • carry out phishing, fraud or other deception, including impersonating someone else
  • distribute malware, viruses or other harmful content
  • send or facilitate spam or unsolicited bulk messaging
  • hide or obscure a destination in a misleading way, or chain redirects to circumvent security controls
  • point to content that is illegal under Norwegian law, including child sexual abuse material, incitement to violence and hate speech
  • infringe the intellectual property rights or privacy of others
  • identify or track individuals by means of links or QR codes, for example by creating one link or code per recipient in order to monitor a specific person
  • harass, threaten or abuse anyone
  • attack, overload or circumvent security mechanisms in the service, or resell the service without an agreement with us

You are responsible for the destinations your links point to and for the content you upload (see section 11).

8.2 Our right to intervene

We may immediately and without prior notice deactivate links and QR codes, remove content, and suspend or terminate accounts when we determine in good faith that the use violates the prohibitions in section 8.1, is illegal, or similarly harms the service, other users or third parties. We may also deactivate links that appear on a public blocklist maintained by a recognized security provider (for example Google Safe Browsing).

We have the right, but no obligation, to check destinations, for example against known phishing databases. Such checks are a safeguard, not a guarantee.

When we intervene, you will always receive a statement of reasons, unless the law prohibits it, or providing reasons would obstruct the prevention or investigation of criminal offenses. You may appeal the decision via /hjelp, and we will handle the appeal without undue delay.

If the intervention was unjustified, we will restore access and compensate you for the interruption: your subscription period is extended accordingly, or you receive a proportionate refund if you prefer. If we terminate your account with justification due to a breach of this section, prepaid amounts for the remaining period are refunded proportionately if you are a consumer; for business customers no refund is given.

8.3 Reporting abuse

If you suspect that a qsy link is being used for something illegal or harmful, report it via the form at /hjelp: select the topic "Meld misbruk eller ulovlig innhold" (Report abuse or illegal content). The form is also our point of contact for notices of illegal content under the rules on digital services, for both users and authorities (in Norwegian or English). You will receive an acknowledgment of receipt, and we handle reports without undue delay and in good faith.

9. API access

The Business tier includes access to the qsy API with API keys that you manage at /konto. The following additionally applies to API use:

  • Keys are secrets. You must store API keys securely and not share them with unauthorized parties. You are responsible for use of the service made with your keys, unless the use is caused by circumstances on our side, including a failure in the security of the service or of our subcontractors. If you suspect that a key has been compromised, revoke it at /konto or notify us via /hjelp immediately.
  • We may rotate and revoke keys without prior notice on suspicion of leakage or abuse. We will notify you and provide reasons following the pattern in section 8.2.
  • Rate limits. The API has technical limits (including the number of calls per unit of time) as stated in the documentation, and we may enforce them technically.
  • All use via the API is subject to section 8 (acceptable use) and section 6 (included usage), in the same way as use in the browser.

10. Availability, maintenance and updates

We work to keep the service available around the clock, and we fix faults as quickly as we can. Nevertheless, interruptions, faults and planned maintenance may occur. The service is built on infrastructure from subcontractors (including cloud platform, DNS, email and payment services), and failures on their side may affect the service. We give no numerical uptime guarantee.

For as long as your subscription runs, we deliver updates, including security updates, that are necessary for the service to function as agreed.

If you are a consumer, nothing in this section limits your rights under digitalytelsesloven (the Norwegian Act on Supply of Digital Services to Consumers) in the event of defects or interruptions (see section 13).

11. Your content and your license to us

You own your content. Links, destinations, titles, QR designs and logos you create or upload are yours. We do not take ownership.

We need an operating license. In order to provide the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to store, process, adapt and display your content, to the extent needed to operate the service: storing links, redirecting traffic, rendering QR codes, displaying statistics and making backups. The license lasts for as long as the content remains in the service and ends when the content is deleted; copies in backups are deleted no later than 35 days thereafter.

Logos are publicly accessible. Logo files you upload are stored so that they can be retrieved by anyone who has the address, because they need to be displayable in QR codes anywhere. Do not upload images you do not want to be public.

You are responsible for the content. You warrant that you have the right to use what you upload, and that your destinations are lawful. We are not responsible for the content of pages your links point to.

12. Links and QR codes stop working on termination

This is important to understand before you print QR codes on posters, packaging or other physical material:

  • Your short links and QR codes work for as long as you have an active subscription (see the Partner exception below).
  • When the subscription ends, for whatever reason, the links stop redirecting. A printed QR code then points to an address that no longer responds.
  • After termination, we retain your content for 12 months, so that you can resume your subscription and get everything back: links, designs, folders and statistics. After that, it is permanently deleted and removed from backups no later than 35 days thereafter (see the Partner exception below).
  • Partner (via Mekanismer): when the customer relationship with Mekanismer ends, the account falls back to no active plan, but the links and QR codes that already exist keep redirecting for as long as the account exists. Deletion after 12 months does not apply to links created while the account had Partner. To create new ones or get more, you can take out Pro or Business.
  • Codes without a short link (see section 2) do not go via us. They are therefore not affected when the subscription ends, but we also cannot change or stop them for you.
  • Your link address is never reused. A short link (qsy.no/yourlink) that has been yours is never assigned to another customer, not even after deletion. Printed codes may therefore stop working, but they will never point to someone else's content.

We recommend renewing well in advance if your codes are in circulation.

13. Your rights as a consumer

If you are a consumer, digitalytelsesloven (the Norwegian Act on Supply of Digital Services to Consumers) applies to your subscription. Among other things, this means:

  • The service must conform to the agreement and to the objective requirements set by the Act.
  • If there is a defect, you may demand rectification, a price reduction or termination of the agreement, and withhold payment, in accordance with the rules of the Act.
  • You may claim damages for loss resulting from a defect or delay under the Act's chapter on damages. Loss incurred in the course of business is not covered.
  • We cannot derogate from these rules to your detriment, and nothing in these terms shall be construed as doing so.

If you wish to make a complaint about a defect, please contact us via /hjelp as soon as you can: this makes it easier for us to help you. This is an encouragement, not a deadline: as a consumer, no contractual notice-of-defect deadline applies to you, only the rules of the Act itself.

14. Limitation of liability

14.1 For all customers

We are liable under general rules of law for loss caused by intent or gross negligence on the part of us or anyone we are responsible for. Nothing in this section limits such liability, liability that cannot validly be excluded under mandatory law, or rights that data subjects have directly under data protection law.

14.2 Consumers

If you are a consumer, the damages rules of digitalytelsesloven (the Norwegian Act on Supply of Digital Services to Consumers) apply (see section 13) instead of sections 14.3 and 14.4. We do not cover loss incurred in the course of business.

14.3 Business customers: indirect loss

Towards business customers, we are not liable for indirect loss. Indirect loss includes, among other things, loss of profit of any kind, loss due to business interruption, loss of data, loss of use, and third-party claims. Note that operational loss caused by a QR code or link being unavailable is typically such an indirect loss.

14.4 Business customers: liability cap

Towards business customers, our total liability in damages under the agreement, regardless of legal basis, is limited to the fees (excluding VAT) paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim, regardless of whether payment was made to us or via Paddle.

14.5 Business customers: notice of claims

Business customers must give notice of a claim without undue delay after the matter was or should have been discovered, and no later than within 3 months. A claim must be pursued by legal action or conciliation board complaint no later than 12 months after the notice, failing which it is forfeited. These deadlines do not apply in cases of intent or gross negligence on our part.

15. Force majeure

Neither party is liable for a failure to perform caused by an impediment beyond that party's reasonable control which the party could not reasonably have avoided or overcome, for example natural events, war, government orders, widespread power or network outages in society, and cyberattacks or denial-of-service attacks (DDoS) that could not have been averted by reasonable measures.

A failure on the part of a subcontractor relieves us only where the failure itself is due to an impediment beyond the reasonable control of both us and the subcontractor, which neither of us could have avoided or overcome by reasonable measures. Ordinary faults or ordinary downtime at subcontractors do not constitute force majeure.

The obligation to perform is suspended for as long as the impediment lasts. If the impediment lasts more than 30 days, either party may terminate the agreement with effect from the time of termination. Upon such termination, prepaid amounts for the time after termination are refunded, and you do not pay for the part of the period during which the service was unavailable due to the impediment.

16. Privacy and security

How we process personal data is described in the privacy policy. In short: we do not store information that could identify the people who scan your codes. Technical data, such as IP addresses, is processed briefly during the redirect itself in order to carry it out, and is discarded before statistics are stored. The statistics are based on anonymous data (country, city, device type, source).

In the event of a personal data breach, we notify Datatilsynet (the Norwegian Data Protection Authority) and affected individuals in accordance with Articles 33 and 34 of the GDPR. Nothing in these terms limits rights that data subjects have directly under data protection law. Our contractual liability towards you as a customer follows section 14.

For customers who use the service to process personal data on their own behalf (typically on the Business tier), our data processing agreement applies in accordance with Article 28 of the GDPR, including an overview of our subcontractors. The data processing agreement is an annex to these terms and is entered into automatically together with the subscription agreement: you do not need to sign anything. It is available at qsy.no, and you can request a copy via /hjelp.

17. Changes to the service and the terms

We develop the service continuously and may change, add and remove features. We may amend the terms when there is a legitimate need, for example changes in law, new functionality, security, or cost developments.

  • Changes that are not to your detriment, in the service or the terms, may be made without notice.
  • All changes that are to your detriment will be notified by email at least 30 days before they take effect, with a clear description of what is changing. If you do not wish to accept the change, you may cancel free of charge with effect no later than the date the change takes effect. Detrimental changes never take effect immediately for ongoing subscriptions.
  • If you are a consumer and a change to the service itself is to your detriment and more than insignificant, you additionally have the right to terminate the agreement free of charge under the rules of digitalytelsesloven (the Norwegian Act on Supply of Digital Services to Consumers).

18. Cancellation, suspension and deletion

You may cancel at any time under "Abonnement" (Subscription) at /konto or via /hjelp (see section 5), with effect from the end of the paid period.

You may delete your account yourself from /konto. Your links, QR designs, statistics, logos and account data are then deleted from our systems, as described in the privacy policy; copies in backups are removed no later than 35 days thereafter. However, accounting documentation related to purchases (Paddle settlements) must be retained for 5 years after the end of the accounting year, pursuant to bokføringsloven (the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act).

We may terminate or suspend your access:

  • immediately and without prior notice in the event of a breach of section 8 (acceptable use), unlawful use, or when we believe in good faith that the security of the account has been compromised
  • for non-payment: after the renewal has failed, Paddle's payment retries as described in Paddle's terms of purchase have been exhausted, and you have been notified by email with a reasonable deadline to remedy the payment
  • otherwise with at least 30 days' notice, for example if we shut down the service, in which case prepaid amounts for the remaining period are refunded

A suspension that is not remedied may result in the account being terminated and data being deleted in accordance with the time limits in section 12. In the event of suspension or deactivation, the rules on reasons, appeal and compensation in section 8.2 apply, including for refunds of prepaid amounts on termination.

19. Intellectual property

The service (the software, the design, the qsy trademark and everything else we have created) belongs to us or our licensors. The subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service for as long as the agreement runs. The QR codes and designs you create for your own use may of course be used freely wherever you wish, but the right to have them redirect via qsy.no follows the subscription (see section 12).

20. Indemnification (business customers only)

If you are a business customer, you shall indemnify and hold us harmless against third-party claims arising from your content, your destinations or your use of the service in breach of these terms or applicable law, including reasonable costs of defense. This does not apply to the extent the claim is caused by circumstances on our side.

If such a claim is made, we will notify you without undue delay, and we will not settle on your behalf without your consent. This section does not apply to consumers.

21. Assignment

You may not assign the agreement without our written consent. We may assign the agreement as part of a reorganization or sale of the business (for example from a sole proprietorship to a limited company), provided that your rights under the agreement are preserved. You will be notified in the event of an assignment.

22. Severability and language versions

If a provision of these terms is set aside or modified in whole or in part, the remainder of the terms remains in force. The provision is then replaced by a valid arrangement that comes closest to the parties' original intent.

The terms exist in Norwegian and English. In the event of any conflict between the language versions, the Norwegian version prevails.

23. Governing law, venue and complaints

The agreement is governed by Norwegian law.

  • Business customers: disputes that are not resolved amicably shall be decided with Oslo tingrett (Oslo District Court) as the agreed venue.
  • Consumers: you retain the right to bring proceedings before the courts of your own ordinary venue (place of residence), and mandatory venue and consumer protection rules of the country where you live are not affected. You may complain to Forbrukertilsynet (the Norwegian Consumer Authority), which mediates disputes between consumers and businesses; if mediation does not succeed, the case may be brought before Forbrukerklageutvalget (the Norwegian Consumer Disputes Committee). If you live in another EU/EEA country, Forbruker Europa (ECC Norway) can help you with cross-border complaints.

24. Contact

  • The service and your account: the form at /hjelp or support@qsy.no
  • Payment, invoices and refunds: Paddle (paddle.net)
